Meet Brigitte Schmidt
Brigitte Schmidt, stage name Mam Aki, is of half German and half Hungarian origin and grew up in Germany. She was enthusiastic about classical music as a small child and received her first violin lessons at the age of 5. She later took violin lessons with Carla Moll, 1st violinist with the Munich Philharmonic.
She has orchestral experience, various performances and worked as a violin teacher. She only discovered her love of composition in later years and is influenced by personal life experiences. This includes several years in Buddhist monasteries in Switzerland and France, as well as individual retreats over many years in remote places and without contact with the outside world.
The experience of stillness opens up her own access to the sound world, which she tries to capture in hybrid compositions made up of orchestral, synthetic and natural sounds. Musical influences come from a wide variety of sectors, including Brahms (especially the 1st Piano Concerto), Stravinsky, Bartok, Mahler, as well as the usual violin repertoire, but also pop, rock and especially the epic genre.
Her current focus is on creating hybrid music for film and games. It is particularly important to her to contribute to European film art in the indie sector with her compositions.
