Meet Caroline Bordignon
Composition has been one of my greatest passions since day one and I have actively pursued and studied composing for concert, exploring relationships between music and synaesthesia (the crossing of sound to colour senses). Originally from Canada, I moved to the UK to study composition at the Royal Northern College of Music where I completed a Masters of Music degree.
I have composed for soloists, ensembles and orchestras internationally. Recent commissions have included solo violin works for the new painting series, Mamlakah by Filipino artist Mart Henry Bongabong, premiered in Singapore. Other highlights include the performance of Iridescent Flares III for orchestra and live painting performed by the London Symphony Orchestra on the 2019/2020 LSO Panufnik Composer’s Scheme. In 2020 First Light was commissioned and premiered by Ovidiu Marinescu in America and most recently Diane Chaplin of the Portland Cello Project. Significant commissions have included Intertwined for singing solo viola by Katherine Clarke, appearing on Classic FM and TwoSet Violin, the second and third movements of Incandescence for string quartet and live painting with the Equilibrium Ensemble at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Arrangements of Norwegian Folk Song for Susanna Solsrud, Soprano, in association with the Bergen National Opera, Ultraviolet, for the 2020 Illuminate Women's Music Series and 5 Miniatures for Solo Bassoon and Painting with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, ‘Next’ project performed by Edoardo Casali.
At this point in my musical journey I have not gained much experience in composing for film. I am actively pursuing new opportunities and connections in film music and believe GEMS will be a significant step. I am especially interested in independent film in Europe and hope to work with filmmakers in Spain/Italy. I am aiming towards a career in composing for both concert and film.
