Hi, my name is Alison Armstrong and I'm a high school music teacher and composer.

I have predominantly taught Music at international schools around the world, specifically teaching the International Baccalaureate Music course and I'm currently based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I have prepared a number of students for entrance into composition programs at a university level, so I have decided it's my turn to push myself to the next level as a composer and also bring back ideas to the classroom.

Around 20 years ago I trained to be a Music teacher at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. Since that time I have furthered my training in classical singing and gained new skills in jazz improvisation and electronic music making. I am a lyric soprano, a pianist, and regularly arrange music for my student ensembles which include a choir, a string quartet, and a beginning jazz band. Working internationally in far flung places means I regularly have to be a jack-of-all-trades and work with the resources and capabilities of the musicians in my care. Teaching and learning in diverse places has given me exposure to the musical traditions and instruments of the South Pacific, South East Asia and more recently Central Asia.
